Tata Motors will shift its plant for manufacturing the small car from Singur, sources told NDTV, adding that the automaker is planning to pull out the machinery from the West Bengal plant.

The initial rollout of Nano would not be from Singur, they said. If Singur is resolved Tata Motors would consider how to use the land, the sources added. The projected demand for Nano meant that it will be manufactured from more than one plant, they said.

Earlier, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata said the automaker is facing pricing pressures on its forthcoming small car due to high input cost. But he said he expects growing demand for small cars in India as well as across the globe.

The small car concept is here to stay, Ratan Tata said.  He was speaking on the sidelines of an automobile convention here.
