Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, directly pitched for a for a policy for distribution of natural gas in India, to Finance Minister P.Chidambaram, at NDTV’s Business Leadership Awards ceremony.
Reliance Industries, India's most valuable firm aims to start production of natural gas from the east coast of India. The company is in dire need of a gas distribution policy before it starts gas production in January, in order to supply the clean fuel to millions of households, vehicles and thousands of industries across India.
Mukesh said, “ More than a change, I think what the Finance Minister can do is, drive a policy that takes the natural gas to the masses. It is equivalent to the mobile model.”
It is probably the right time for Ambani’s demand for a gas distribution policy as Reliance Industries is very close to start gas production from its fields in the Krishna-Godavari basin, which he terms as India's answer to the Gulf of Mexico.
“Our own view is that deep water gas found in India's east coast, is similar to that found in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Mukesh.
