The key benchmark indices advanced in the early deals led by gains in capitals goods, metals and auto counters. The benchmark Sensex was up 103 points at 14,597 levels and the Nifty was up 32 points at 4,323 levels.
On the sectoral front, the BSE auto index rose 1 per cent. The capital goods index on the BSE gained 0.9 per cent and the metal index was up 0.8 per cent.
Among the Sensex stocks, Tata Motors led the gainers. The stock advanced 1.3 per cent in early trade. Tata Power, Sun Pharma and Sterlite Industries were the other main gainers in the pack, up more than 1.2 per cent each.
However, ACC, Hindalco and ICICI Bank were among the losers in the pack, down over 2 per cent each.
In the US markets, the major stock indices ended lower on Tuesday. The Dow fell 82.38, or 1 percent, to 8,447.00; the S&P 500 fell 7.90, or 0.9 percent, to 919.33, and the Nasdaq slid 9.02, or 0.5 percent, to 1,835.04.
Asian markets were trading mostly higher today. South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei and China’s Shanghai Composite were up more than 0.8 per cent each.
