A more than a century old law was overturned on Thursday. Same sex relationship is no more an offense. In a historic judgment, Delhi High Court said it’s legal, but what does corporate India has to say about it? How do they perceive and will deal with this change? A landmark judgement by the court that love is not a crime, even between the same sex, has brought smiles on many faces and corporate India, which employs many of these youngsters, is cheering along. But while the court can redefine laws, can it actually change the attitude of people towards same sex relationships? Also, will this judgement mean any change in HR policies by corporates? Adi Godrej, chairman, Godrej Group, said, "Even today, in most corporates, right corporates, there is no discrimination on the basis of ones sexual preference. That’s how corporates should behave."
Although there are confident voices at the top, will this percolate down to the masses and will it reflect in better policies at workplaces? Well, the gay communities certainly hope that Thursday’s judgement will prove to be the stepping-stone for better days to come.
