Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said disinvestment is "a problematic area", however the government would take all measures that are needed to boost the economy.

"It (disinvestment) is no doubt a problematic area. But at the same time what is needed for the health of the economy will be done," Mukherjee said.

He further said that the government would take all steps to remove the distortion in the economy, however, he refused to comment specifically on disinvestment.

"I am not going into specific. Whatever I have stated in the Budget statement, I have indicated the broad guidelines and the parameters ,but I would not like to specifically indicates which sectors? how much?," he added.

Earlier, Mukherjee in his Budget speech said, "The PSUs are the wealth of the nation, and part of this wealth should rest in the hands of the people. While retaining at least 51 per cent government equity in our enterprises, I propose to encourage people's participation in out disinvestment programme."

The Budget pegged disinvestment proceeds at Rs 1,120 crore for 2009-10, which includes disinvestment in Rail India Technical and Economic Services, Cochin Shipyard Ltd among others.
