Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1196.70 crore on Friday, 16 October 2009, higher than Rs 963.10 crore on Thursday, 15 October 2009.
FII inflow of Rs 1196.70 crore on 16 October 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 3861.60 crore and gross sales Rs 2664.90 crore. The BSE Sensex rose 127.62 points or 0.74% to 17,322.82 on that day.
FII inflow in October 2009 totaled Rs 6,569.20 crore (till 16 October 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 17,328 crore in September 2009. FII inflow in the calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 66,706.30 crore (till 16 October 2009).
There are a total of 1696 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
