Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1770 crore on Tuesday, 20 October 2009, higher than Rs 1196.70 crore on Friday, 16 October 2009.
FII inflow of Rs 1770 crore on 20 October 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 4478.30 crore and gross sales Rs 2708.30 crore. The BSE Sensex lost 103 points or 0.59% to 17,223.01 on that day.
FII inflow in October 2009 totaled Rs 8339.20 crore (till 20 October 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 17328 crore in September 2009. FII inflow in the calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 68,476.30 crore (till 20 October 2009).
There are a total of 1695 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
