Wipro jumped nearly 4% to Rs 614.05 at 10:02 IST after the net profit rose 2.85% to Rs 1232.10 crore on a 11.06% rise in total income to Rs 5979.20 crore in Q2 September 2009 over Q1 June 2009.
The result was announced before market hours today, 27 October 2009.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 134.66 points, or 0.80%, to 16,605.84.
On BSE, 80,453 shares were traded in the counter. The stock hit a high of Rs 618 and a low of Rs 590 so far during the day.
On a consolidated basis, Wipro's net profit grew 14.39% to Rs 1161.70 crore on a 10.32% rise in total income to Rs 7057.40 crore in Q2 September 2009 over Q1 June 2009.
Wipro beat market forecast as it won new outsourcing contracts and pressure on fees eased. Looking ahead for Q3 December 2009, Wipro expects revenues from IT Services business to be in the range of $1,092 million to $1,113 million, a rise of 2.51% and 4.48% compared with the revenues of IT Services business of $1,065.2 in Q2 September 2009.
On a constant currency basis, Wipro's global IT services revenue for the just-ended quarter was $1,053 billion.
