Workers at Maruti SuzukiBSE 2.37 % India's Manesar plant today rejected the proposal of forming grievance and welfare committees, saying they are not interested in these groups, sources said.

Sources said around 300 workers during the tea-break assembled and met the senior management and rejected the proposal of creating these two groups.

Workers told the management that their leaders are still in jail, the matter is sub-judice and they are not interested in these two committees, according to sources.

Despite repeated attempts, the Maruti management did not respond to queries in this regard.

The Mansear plant, which employs around 3,300 workers, on July 18 had witnessed violence in which one General Manager was killed and 100 others injured. Post-violence, some of the union leaders were arrested by Haryana Police.

After a month-long lockout, the Manesar plant resumed operations on August 21.

The plant has an annual production capacity of 5.5 lakh units.
