Jet Airways engineers on 'go-slow' mode; airline denies labour unrest

close

Mumbai: Continuing their protest against the management, engineers of Jet Airways are on a 'go-slow' mode after talks over a hike in wages failed, sources told NDTV Profit. However, the engineers have not gone on a strike.

The domestic career, which is in talks with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways for a possible stake sale, has had to cancel a Madurai-bound and another Coimbatore-bound flight from Chennai, media reports claimed.

However, a Jet spokesperson said this evening that the airline had to cancel two flights from Chennai in the morning for engine repairs and not because of lack of engineers. She also refuted reports of labour trouble at the airline.

Pilots and engineers have been demanding wage hikes and payment of their arrears pending since 2011. Technicians of the airline had earlier registered their protest by sporting black bands.

However, the pilots have so far refrained from resorting to any industrial action to press for their demands.

The airline had last month signed a tripartite agreement for wage hikes with its employees' associations, giving them a salary raise of up to Rs. 18,000 per month.
