Wipro has elevated Abidali Z Neemuchwala, the current group president and chief operating officer of India's third largest software services firm , as chief executive officer and member of its board. Current CEO TK Kurien has been appointed as executive vice chairman. Mr Neemuchwala had joined Wipro last year after a long tenure of over 23 years with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). In his last role with TCS, he headed the business process services unit of India's biggest outsourcer.
As chief operating officer of Wipro, his current portfolio includes global infrastructure services, business application services, business process services and advanced technology solutions. He is also responsible for business operations, strategic engagements, advisor relationships and strategic marketing.
Mr Neemuchwala holds an electronics and communication engineering degree from NIT, Raipur and has a master's degree in industrial management from IIT Mumbai.
His profile on Wipro's website mentions him as a "chess buff who also enjoys volunteering, travelling, Indian music, reading fiction, and golf".
